May 03, 2013, 07:31 AM

The Turnaround Management Association has announced that J. Scott Victor, founding partner and managing director, SSG Capital Advisors, LLC, and Omar Mirza, vice president, Ernst & Young Capital Advisors, LLC, were selected as recipients of the 2012 TMA Outstanding Contributor of the Year award. They will be recognized during an awards lunch at The 2013 TMA Senate on May 14-16 at the JW Marriott Chicago in Chicago, Illinois.

Each year, TMA recognizes members who raise the public profile of the corporate restructuring industry through their volunteer service and dedication to TMA.

“Scott and Omar have both had a meaningful impact on the success of TMA and we are very grateful for their efforts and dedication to the organization,” says Thomas M. Kim, CTP, TMA president and managing director and founder, r2 advisors, llc. “Over the years, Scott has played an integral role in furthering the mission of TMA at both the chapter level in Philadelphia and the global level. Omar has emerged quickly as a leader through his stewardship of TMA’s NextGen program for both the New York City Chapter and TMA Global.”

A founding partner and managing director at SSG Capital Advisors, LLC, Victor has a long history of volunteerism at the local, regional, and global level. He has held 45 TMA leadership positions at the global and chapter level, including member-at-large and vice president of chapter relations for the TMA Global Board of Trustees, member-at-large for the TMA Global Executive Board, past chairman and past president of the TMA Philadelphia Chapter, and more. Victor volunteers his time, resources, and even his colleagues to advance TMA’s mission through superior education and leadership initiatives. He has become one of TMA’s key leaders through diligent effort, forging connections, and demonstrating strong leadership with a direct approach. He shares his network, expertise, and knowledge with other TMA members.

Mirza, a vice president at Ernst & Young Capital Advisors, LLC, and chair of the TMA Global NextGen Committee, is well-known for leading the meteoric transformation of TMA New York’s NextGen program. He recruited and built a high profile committee, launched a series of new, noteworthy education and networking events, and dramatically increased membership with young professionals. TMA New York NextGen events regularly feature marquee restructuring and distressed investing professionals as speakers and the chapter membership is now comprised of 35 percent NextGen members. In 2012, Mirza helped introduce the inaugural TMA Global NextGen Leadership Meeting, an opportunity for TMA’s future leaders from 15 chapters to share best practices, exchange ideas and develop strategic business plans. Most recently, Mirza developed a formal global strategy document and sub-committee structure which provided committee members with leadership opportunities. He has worked tirelessly to develop strategies, bring structure to the program and facilitate communication and international growth.

Victor and Mirza will be recognized for their outstanding achievements at the TMA Senate, an all-new education symposium developed by the TMA Institute, TMA’s new comprehensive education system. The theme of the conference is Leadership for Today, Tomorrow, and Beyond, and features a full schedule of leadership education panels and presentations, as well as networking and business development opportunities.
