February 05, 2016, 07:56 AM

The Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the advocate for the profession of directorship, announced changes in the leadership structure that will direct the organization for 2016 and 2017.

Effective immediately, Chapter President Terence J. Connors, assumes the role of Chairman, and Chapter Board member Howard Brod Brownstein, becomes President. The changes were approved unanimously by the Chapter’s Board of Directors.

“I am excited about the opportunity to continue to build the chapter in ways that add value to the critical roles that local directors play in both the for-profit and non-profit arenas,” said Connors. “And I look forward to the contributions that an immensely - talented director like Howard will bring to our chapter.”

Connors thanked outgoing Chair, Judith M. von Seldeneck, Founder and Chairman of Diversified Search, for the many years of steadfast leadership she brought to NACD.

Brownstein expressed his appreciation to the Chapter Board for its confidence in appointing him as president, and said, “I am looking forward to working with our Board and our new Chair Terry Connors in bringing valuable programs to the Philadelphia corporate governance community.”

Connors recently retired as a Senior Partner from KPMG LLP after serving the public accounting needs of many of the region’s largest public companies for nearly forty years. He began his career with Arthur Andersen after graduating from LaSalle University, and in 2002 joined KPMG. Most recently he served as a member of KPMG’s US Board of Directors including Chairman of the firm’s Audit, Finance & Operations Committee. Connors is a Board Member and Audit Committee Chair of Cardone Industries, Inc.

Brownstein is President at The Brownstein Corporation, a turnaround and crisis management firm. Over his career, Brownstein has become a nationally-known and widely published expert on turnaround and crisis management issues, as well as corporate governance.  He is a graduate of Harvard University (J.D. & M.B.A) and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and its College of Arts and Sciences. He served in the USAF Reserve as a 1st Lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps. Brownstein has served as an independent corporate board member for more than forty years, and is a Board Member of P&F Industries.

NACD Philadelphia helps directors lead with confidence. The chapter provides a forum for local NACD members to exchange knowledge and discuss leading governance practices in the Greater Philadelphia region. Members in each of NACD’s 22 chapters participate in a national dialogue on building a global marketplace in which businesses are sustainable, profitable, and respected—one where stakeholders trust directors to provide effective oversight and develop strategies that create long-term value for shareholders.

NACD has been advancing board leadership for more than 35 years.
