Rothschild Adds Two MDs to Chicago Industrials Group

Rothschild Global Advisory expanded its North American business with the hiring of Sumner Farren and Sara Coyle as Managing Directors in its Chicago office. Farren and Coyle will join the Industrials group starting in late June.

“The addition of Sumner and Sara to our Chicago office provides additional experience and depth to the strong team there, which has already been successful since the office opened in 2016,” stated Jimmy Neissa, Head of Rothschild & Co North America . “We are delighted with the work Eric Hirschfield and his team have done to build our presence and reputation in the Midwest region, and adding two Managing Directors of this caliber reflects Rothschild & Co’s ongoing commitment to the U.S. market.”

With over 25 years of experience, Sumner Farren joins Rothschild Global Advisory from UBS, where he was a Managing Director responsible for the firm’s sellside M&A activities in North America. Prior to UBS, Farren spent 20 years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Chicago working primarily on M&A for a wide variety of industries. He received an MBA with a concentration in Analytic Finance from The Booth School of Management at the University of Chicago and a BS in Accounting from Auburn University.

Prior to joining Rothschild Global Advisory, Sara Coyle was also at UBS, where she was a Managing Director of the Global Industrials Group responsible for Industrial Distribution and Packaging coverage efforts. She joined the firm in 2015. Prior to UBS, Coyle spent ten years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Citi, working on M&A, equity and debt financing transactions for a broad variety of Paper & Packaging, Distribution, Chemical, Building Products and Aerospace & Defense companies. She received an MBA with a concentration in Finance from Yale School of Management in and a BS in Mechanical Engineering (summa cum laude) from Cornell University.

Coyle and Farren have worked together on many transactions while at UBS and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, including the recent sales of CharterNex to Leonard Green, Consolidated Container to Loews Corporation, Fort Dearborn to Advent and American Tire Distributors to Ares. At Rothschild Global Advisory, they will help build the firm’s growing presence globally in General Industrials, Distribution, Paper and Packaging, and reinforce the mandate of Rothschild Global Advisory to be a premier strategic advisor to companies in the Midwest United States.

Eric Hirschfield, Managing Director and Head of the Midwest Region for Rothschild Global Advisory, added, “Given how active our Chicago office has been since we launched and the opportunities we see in the current environment, it was a natural progression to expand our range of capabilities in the Midwest region. Sumner and Sara will be vital in taking our presence to the next level.”

The news follows other significant hires in North America over the past year, including Chris Gaertner and Walid Khiari as Managing Directors in Silicon Valley; Reza Vahabzadeh, Aashis Mehta and Timothy Hotchandani as Managing Directors in New York; and Siddharth Hariharan as a Managing Director in Los Angeles.
