Capital One Expands Energy Division in Houston

Capital One Securities, Inc., today announced the appointment of two new Senior Managing Directors to expand its Energy Banking division. Russ Johnson and Bob Mertensotto will co-head the Houston Energy Banking office; Johnson will join as Head of Energy Investment Banking, and Mertensotto will join as Head of Energy Debt Capital Markets.  In addition, Scott Joyce has been promoted to Managing Director of Energy Origination and will report to Mertensotto and Johnson who, in turn, will report to Jim McBride, recently named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Capital One Securities Energy Banking Division. 

“Russ and Bob bring a wealth of relationships and experience to Capital One Securities,” said McBride. “Their proven track record of successes and their ability to address clients’ needs and company goals will make them key members to the future growth of our business. We welcome them and look forward to the continued growth and success of our energy banking business.”

Both Johnson and Mertensotto began their energy banking careers at a predecessor to J.P. Morgan. Russ, a 20-year industry veteran, was most recently a Managing Director at Barclays and co-head of their Oil and Gas Leveraged Finance group while Bob, a 32-year industry veteran, was most recently a Managing Director at J.P. Morgan in its Oil and Gas Leveraged Finance group.

Capital One has grown its energy business significantly in recent years, both in its Energy Banking loan portfolio and Capital One Securities energy-related investment banking transactions.  Product capabilities include: public debt and equity underwriting; private debt and equity placements; financial advisory services, including asset acquisition and divestiture advisory services; capital markets bridge loans; production payments; second lien loans; revolvers and term loans.
