Citizens Hires O’Connell as NYC Metro Market Executive

Date: Oct 18, 2022 @ 07:50 AM

Citizens announced the appointment of Rebecca O’Connell as its New York City Metro Market Executive. In this capacity, she will represent Citizens throughout the region as the bank partners with customers, businesses, and communities to help them reach their potential and achieve enduring success.

O’Connell has more than 25 years of experience as a banking executive and senior management consultant. She joins Citizens from JPMorgan where she built a track record of success helping middle market and mid-corporate clients exceed growth and customer experience goals. She previously held roles of increasing responsibility with Bank of America and McKinsey & Co. In addition to representing Citizens in an official capacity in the NYC Metro region, she will oversee a portfolio of middle market and mid-corporate clients, acting as a strategic and financial partner.

“New York City is a very important growth market for Citizens and I am pleased to have Rebecca join our leadership team here,” said Steve Woods, Head of Corporate Banking, Citizens. “It is an exciting time to be at Citizens as we continue to grow nationally and expand the suite of solutions we can offer our customers.”

Citizens recently expanded its NYC Metro customer base by acquiring HSBC’s East Coast branches and New Jersey-based Investors Bank.

O’Connell graduated from State University of New York at Cortland and earned an MBA from Long Island University. She is a board member of the Long Island Association and the Moxxie Mentoring Foundation, which supports and fosters the career advancement and leadership development of young women through generational mentoring.

The bank has a longstanding commitment to fostering neighborhood revitalization, small business support and economic development. Since entering the NYC Metro market in February with retail branches, Citizens has hosted several community programs across the city supporting open streets and night markets and providing grants and support for small businesses and workforce development. This year, Citizens has partnered with a number of NYC organizations including LISC, Ukrainian Women’s League, Think!Chinatown, Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation, the Ocean Bay Community Development Corporation, and Pursuit.
