Alvarez & Marsal’s Healthcare Industry Group Appoints Berkey as Managing Director

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has appointed Tim Berkey as Managing Director in its Healthcare Industry Group. Berkey’s hire augments the firm’s hospital and health systems Supply Chain offering and capability to assist healthcare organizations drive greater non-labor expense reduction and operations improvement.
 
Berkey brings more than 30 years of experience developing and implementing custom strategies that both drive financial and operational improvement results for healthcare service organizations and enhance non-labor performance. Berkey focuses on helping clients dramatically improve their macro Supply Chain processes through optimizing critical processes in Value Analysis, Sourcing and Contracting, Purchasing, Receiving, Inventory Management, and Accounts Payable. He has led large-scale non-labor Supply Chain expense reduction imperatives, designed and provided executive-level oversight for strategic partnerships with multiple workstreams and served as a technical subject matter expert in nearly 50 unique supply and purchased service categories.  
 
Berkey’s expertise includes working with not-for-profit healthcare providers ranging from single organization integrated delivery networks (IDN) to multi-hospital systems with $2 billion in annual revenue. His recent engagements include serving as the engagement executive for an eight-hospital academic medical center, where his team delivered $36 million in approved annualized savings. He has also served as a subject matter expert for Supply Chain operations, supporting the integration of the corporate Supply Chain function in two health systems.

Tim is the host of A&M’s Healthcare Supply Chain: No Time to Waste Podcast Series, where he speaks with healthcare leaders about today’s biggest Supply Chain challenges. The inaugural episode featured discussion on topics including, the clinical integration of hospitals, pressing challenges hospitals are facing, and strategies for addressing these issues.
 
Prior to joining A&M, Berkey was a Vice President with Premier, Inc., a leading healthcare group purchasing and performance improvement organization. In that role, he supported Premier’s hospitals with financial and operations improvement domains, including oversight of a 30-person practice focused on Supply Chain. Previously, he founded Timothy Berkey Consulting Solutions, LLC, which provided healthcare organizations with financial improvement strategies, and healthcare Supply Chain consulting expertise.
