Factoring Finance: A Solid Anchor in Economic Storms

With the factoring finance market valued at $3.2 billion in 2021 and estimated to grow by 79 percent to $5.8 billion by 2031, there is no doubt that this sector represents a solid rock product within the wider working capital industry.

Dating back to the Middle Ages, factoring began when merchants and traders used accounts receivable as collateral for loans. It was not until the 18th century that accounts receivable were introduced by textile merchants as a means to generate cash flow.

With time, this practice gained widespread adoption and in the 20th century commercial companies began specializing in the purchase of accounts receivables.

The global factoring industry continued to grow and expand through the centuries, with no signs of slowing down.

So why has factoring succeeded in navigating so many economic waves over the centuries?

Factoring has become a trusted and essential practice across many industries. Where other sectors face challenges during taxing economic downturns, factoring allows companies to seize the opportunities which market instability can offer. When banks are less likely or willing to take on risky accounts, this opens the door for other lenders, factors and ABL specialists, who understand the value that can be extracted from lending against accounts receivable and inventory. Bill Noel, Chief Product Officer at Solifi, has over 30 years’ experience in business and operational strategy, SaaS transformation, innovation and product portfolio management across the software, electronics, semiconductor, and industrial products industries.

Having graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a BSc and MSc in Electronical Engineering, Bill later completed his MBA at Boston University.

With a strong background in software engineering gained at international level, Bill specializes in business and operational strategy, innovation management, organization transformation programs, product development lifecycle processes, complex program management, global product development, agile software development and global R&D operating models. Prior to joining Solifi in 2021, Bill served as Group Vice President of Product Portfolio, Program and Pricing at Blue Yonder, a global leader in supply chain software, where he was responsible for driving the portfolio strategy, product management processes, SaaS pricing, new product introduction, and the internal product organization operating model.
