Moritt Hock & Hamroff Expands Real Estate Practice in New York

Date: Sep 12, 2023 @ 07:35 AM

Moritt Hock & Hamroff announced the addition of five attorneys to its New York City office, significantly expanding its real estate practice and further illustrating the firm’s continued growth.  Matthew Leeds, William McCracken and David Fitzhenry join as Partners, while Matthew Healey joins as Counsel and Brett Stack joins as an Associate.  All five attorneys previously served as part of the real estate practice group at Ganfer Shore Leeds & Zauderer in New York City where Matthew Leeds served as Co-Chair of the team.

The move follows the recent expansion of the firm’s M&A and Tax practices, as well as its presence in Southeast Florida with the opening of a new office in the Fort Lauderdale metro area.

"At a time when other firms are leaving New York City, we are taking additional space and expanding our already robust real estate practice," said Marc Hamroff, managing partner at Moritt Hock & Hamroff. "My partners and I are excited to add these five experienced and respected names to our real estate team, representing various groups in all aspects of complex transactions and doing so in an ever-changing market."

"My team and I are thrilled to join Moritt Hock & Hamroff. This move represents an exciting new chapter for us in our professional growth," said Matthew Leeds.  "We look forward to contributing our best practices and expertise in the commercial real estate industry to MHH’s already thriving real estate practice as we continue to innovate in the delivery of exceptional legal services to our clients."

Leeds has been ahead of the curve of developments in real estate law in New York City for more than three decades. He handles all matters of sophisticated real estate transactions involving development, construction, ownership and financing of commercial, residential and mixed-use properties, and commercial condominiums.  His experience representing New York City real estate developers has led him to particular expertise in cooperatives and condominiums, and for decades he has been a recognized authority in all aspects of cooperative and condominium law, ranging through development, lending and the representation of cooperative apartment corporations and condominium associations.

McCracken is a seasoned and successful commercial litigator and a leading adviser to condominiums and cooperatives, sponsors, developers, managing agents, and real estate owners.  His litigation practice concentrates on commercial disputes and arbitrations involving contracts, partnership disputes and dissolutions, securities fraud, foreclosures, and real estate.

Fitzhenry concentrates his practice on sophisticated New York City real estate transactions.  He represents developers, lenders, sponsors, purchasers, sellers, landlords, tenants, not-for-profit organizations, condominium associations, and cooperative apartment corporations. He is  leader in many burgeoning areas, such as commercial condominiums and leasehold commercial condominiums.

Healey focuses his practice on a wide variety of commercial and residential real estate acquisitions, sales, leasing and financings.  He represents developers, owners, holders, investors, buyers, and sellers of significant commercial properties, multi-family developments, cooperative and condominium units, and high-end residences.

Stack concentrates his practice on complex real estate transactions.  He frequently represents buyers, sellers, lending institutions, sponsors, developers, landlords, tenants, condominium associations and cooperative apartment corporations with regard to their various real estate matters.
