Barton Joins Second Wind Conultants as Director of Special Assets and Portfolio Solutions

Date: Jan 23, 2024 @ 07:47 AM

Second Wind Consultants announced that Sally Barton, most recently of KeyBank, is the newest member of the Second Wind team.

After serving as Senior Vice President within KeyBank’s Asset Recovery Group (workout), Ms. Barton joins Second Wind in a unique role that will have a significant impact on banks, ABLs, law firms, and turnaround consultants.

As Second Wind’s Director of Special Assets and Portfolio Solutions, Ms. Barton will facilitate senior creditor exits and increased recovery value through Article 9 restructuring.

Through the Article 9 restructuring process, debtor consent to the secured party sale is pre-packaged, along with the purchaser and take-out financing for the going-concern asset sale transaction. As a result, senior creditors recover asset valuation without formal liquidation, avoid lengthy and costly judicial processes, and have the opportunity to further increase recovery value of deficiency balances from within the relaunched business operation - based upon performance. Ms. Barton’s position represents a new and more efficient option for bank exits, while allowing lenders and turnaround advisors to enter into clean, new balance sheets.

The Director of Special Assets and Portfolio Solutions aligns the interests of exiting senior lenders, incoming lenders, the new business entity, and operational turnaround consultants, in order to transition the business successfully -  so as to increase the exiting senior lender’s expected total recovery value.

Barton has spent her career in the banking industry with her most recent position as Senior Vice President in the Asset Recovery Group (workout) at KeyBank.  In this role she managed a portfolio of troubled upper middle market and syndicated deals and was responsible for assessing risk, establishing workout strategies, monitoring  performance, determining liquidation strategies, working with counsel on all aspects of a workout including negotiation of forbearance agreements, bankruptcies and DIP financing and actively working with financial advisors engaged in her matters.

She has worked for a number of banks and in a number of different roles including credit analyst as part of a formal credit training program, relationship manager in middle market, Senior Credit Officer involved in training and credit approvals and workout  manager after graduating with a BS in Business Administration with a finance specialization and then earning her MBA while working full time.

Barton has been active in the Turnaround Management Association for over 20 years and served as President of the Northern Ohio Chapter in 2015 and 2016 after serving many years and on many committees on the local board.  Since her term as Ohio Chapter President , she has been active with Global having served on a number of committees including Global Executive Board and Board of Trustees, Co-chair of the TMA Annual held in Cleveland in 2019, Nominations Committee, TMA CEO contract negotiations, VP of Marketing and Communications, Corporate Secretary and is currently serving as VP of Finance in 2024 which includes both the finance committee and audit committee.  She was awarded the TMA Northern Ohio Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022.
