Alvarez & Marsal’s Healthcare Industry Group Appoints Van Horn as Managing Director

Date: Apr 04, 2024 @ 07:35 AM

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) announced the appointment of Mallory Van Horn as a Managing Director within the firm’s Healthcare Industry Group’s Health Plans and Managed Care practice. Ms. Van Horn’s hire represents the next phase of the group’s growth strategy, following on the recent appointment of Managing Director and Health Plans and Managed Care Practice Leader, Craig Savage.

Ms. Van Horn advises health plans on improving value-based care, quality and risk adjustment strategies. With her expertise, A&M expands its ability to help clients navigate the ongoing regulatory changes and financial and operational challenges stemming from decreased government-sponsored program spending. Additionally, she will help clients maximize value as they face continuing pressures to transform from fee-for-service to outcomes-based reimbursement models.

Prior to joining A&M, Ms. Van Horn was the CEO of UnitedHealthcare’s Community Plan of Oklahoma where she helped launch innovative provider-led partnerships to advance value-based care, improve quality outcomes and develop strategies to address affordability and health equity for Medicaid members. Previously, Ms. Van Horn led the health management and operations consulting practice for Optum Advisory Services, where she developed and delivered best-in-class solutions to drive measurable performance improvement in Medicare Advantage Star Ratings and Medicaid Quality incentive programs, healthcare effectiveness data and information set (HEDIS®) and consumer assessment of healthcare providers and systems (CAHPS®).

Craig Savage, said, “Mallory’s expertise and in-depth industry knowledge enhances our ability to help healthcare payers achieve financial and growth goals while navigating a complex landscape and volatile economy. As our practice continues to thrive and evolve, Mallory will be instrumental in guiding clients through ongoing top-line revenue challenges and Star Rating methodology demands.”

Martin McGahan, Head of A&M’s Healthcare Industry Group, noted, “ We understand the significant changes in Star Rating methodology that could result in decreased quality bonus payments. Mallory’s appointment furthers our position to help clients proactively prepare for these changes to minimize impact and succeed in this new regulatory environment.”

Ms. Van Horn earned a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College and a master’s in public health and business administration from the University of Oklahoma.
