Citizens Financial Group, Inc. announced that Richard C. Hampson has been appointed President of Charter One and RBS Citizens in Michigan, effective June 30. He is joining the company from PNC Bank, where he had responsibility for key corporate banking clients across Michigan, Northwest Ohio and Canada.

In addition to his role as Michigan state president, Hampson will lead middle-market banking for RBS Citizens in the state.

A commercial banking professional with more than 20 years of experience working with corporate customers at PNC and other firms including Comerica Bank and Brown Brothers Harriman & Company, Hampson has been based in Michigan since 2001.

“Rick brings a wealth of commercial banking expertise and deep knowledge of the Michigan market to this important leadership position,” said Steve Woods, Head of Corporate Banking. “He has a track record of growing businesses by delivering great ideas to his clients and will provide strong leadership for our team as we continue to grow our business in Michigan.”

“I am very excited by this opportunity to help build on the excellent work being done in Michigan by Charter One and RBS Citizens,” Hampson said. “Michigan is experiencing a period of renewal and I look forward to this opportunity to help lead a bank that is making significant investments in its business here and working hard to help Michigan consumers, companies and communities prosper.”

Prior to his role at PNC, Hampson rose through the ranks at Comerica, where he managed a team of bankers serving corporate clients.

Citizens Financial Group is the 13th largest retail bank holding company in the United States according to SNL Financial with $126.9 billion of total assets as of March 31, 2014.
