Houlihan Lokey Expands Intellectual Property Advisory Team

June 16, 2017, 07:17 AM

Houlihan Lokey, Inc., the global investment bank, announced several additions to its Tech+IP Advisory practice within Financial Advisory Services (FAS). John A. Hudson and Brent Reynolds Sr. have joined the practice as a Director and Vice President, respectively; Scott Womack will join the firm early next month as a Vice President. Hudson and Womack will be based in Atlanta, and Reynolds is based in Houston.

In addition, current Houlihan Lokey employees Terry Treemarcki, a Director, and Andrew Cohen, an Analyst, will join the Tech+IP Advisory practice and be based in Chicago and Los Angeles, respectively. With these additions, the practice strengthens its lead as the premier Tech+IP Advisory practice serving clients globally.

Hudson was Co-Head of Deloitte’s National Intellectual Property Advisory practice, which he helped establish and build, where he was responsible for a number of IP-related activities supporting leading global companies, including strategy and commercialization, portfolio management and development, disputes and litigation, IP-related transactions, licensing, education and awareness, valuation, and monetization. After Deloitte, Hudson joined Aseptia, where he was most recently Executive Vice President and Chief Intellectual Property Officer.

“With nearly two decades of experience in the valuation and value extraction strategies of all forms of intellectual property, John’s breadth of experience is nearly unmatched in IP advisory,” said Elvir Causevic, Managing Director and Co-Head of Tech+IP Advisory at Houlihan Lokey. “He has served clients in the Americas, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region on a wide range of IP matters, including trademarks, brands, and copyrights, and we’re delighted that he has joined Houlihan Lokey,” he continued.

Joining Hudson will be Womack, a former Deloitte colleague who was a Manager at Deloitte Transactions and Business Analytics, working on strategic IP engagements, IP and general business valuation engagements, and IP litigation engagements for a variety of leading global clients. After Deloitte, Womack was a Vice President at Adapt IP Ventures, a boutique IP firm that provides services related to IP transactions, IP strategy, and IP valuations.

Reynolds joins from Perdix Capital Management, an investment management company he founded that focuses on public market trading around significant IP litigation events. His prior experience also includes serving as a Director in the Intellectual Property Strategy group at Ocean Tomo, an intellectual property boutique, and as an Associate at Charles River Associates, a global consulting firm.

“We have been pleased—and a bit surprised—at the accelerated level of business being done by our clients in the first half of 2017,” said Ed Fish, Managing Director and Co-Head of Tech+IP Advisory at Houlihan Lokey. “Adding leading talent from both outside and inside the firm in the areas of transactions, valuations, and other advisory services directly reflects our clients’ increased level of attention to and business involving IP in order to support their strategic plans,” he added.

Hudson holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Florida. He is also a Certified Patent Valuation Analyst. Professional affiliations include the Licensing Executive Society, the Association of University Technology Managers, and the Intellectual Property Owners Association. Reynolds holds a B.A. in Finance and an MBA from Texas A&M University. Mr. Womack holds a B.A. in Finance from Georgia State University and is a Certified Project Management Professional with the Project Management Institute.
