For more than three decades, The Carlson Co. Inc. manufactured fixtures and cabinetry for some of world’s leading high-end retailers. Now, following the retirement of its owner, Tiger Group and New Mill Capital  will conduct an online auction on February 7 of the Madison-based manufacturer’s expansive assets. The two companies are also accepting purchase or lease offers for Carlson’s 117,000-square-foot warehouse/light manufacturing/office building that sits on almost six acres convenient to three interstate highways.

The auction features a rebuilt Trumpf CNC laser cutter with light use; an array of other well-maintained metalworking, woodworking, welding, spray booth, dust collection, packaging, plant support and office equipment; as well as large inventory of finished products, work-in-progress, raw wood and metal materials, plus parts.

The sale will get under way at 9:00 a.m. (CT) on Wednesday, February 7, with bidders required to register in advance at www.bidspotter.com. Previews of the assets are available, by appointment, at the Carlson site: 2305 Daniels Street, Madison, Wisc. To arrange a preview, contact: tracym@newmillcapital.com.

“With a vast selection of well-maintained equipment, this sale provides an excellent opportunity for store fixture and cabinet manufacturers, woodworking and metalworking shops, and M&E dealers to purchase, at auction, assets from Carlson, which for 37 years, served luxury retailers across the globe, including Bloomingdale’s, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Oscar de la Renta,” said Chad Farrell, Managing Director of Tiger’s Commercial & Industrial Division.

Metalworking equipment being auctioned is highlighted by the recently rebuilt 1999 Trumpf Turbo Laser with all controls, electrics and cooling system, including a new resonator with just five hours of use. Other items include a 2006 Knuth shear, a 1996 Komo CNC gantry router with Fanuc O-M controls, a Bridgeport vertical milling machine, a Colchester lathe, multiple drill presses and band saws, tools, and additional facility support equipment.

The expansive offering of woodworking equipment includes a Holzma ripsaw and a Weeke router with tooling, both from 2004; a 2005 Brandt edgebander, an SCMI table saw with dust collector, Laguna and Mitre 1500 bandsaws; and multiple table saws, joiners, planers, drill presses, sanders, and more.

Carlson’s assets also include four spray booths with Dwyer pressure sensors, ovens, paint and spray systems, and more; welding equipment from Lincoln, Miller and Migmaster; and packaging systems from Sealed Air Corp., Ranpack and Consew.

Plant support and warehouse equipment on the auction block include a JLG scissor lift, Sullair and Quincy air compressors, forklifts, walk-behinds, pallet jacks, shop fans, and pallet racking.

Discussing the real estate offering, New Mill Capital Principal Tom Murray said: “The plant could work excellently for a variety of light manufacturers, especially those in need of easy access to major highways. The site is large, and the space is flexible enough to accommodate a variety of different industries."

The real estate encompasses 117,000 square feet of sub-dividable warehouse and light manufacturing space on 5.74 acres, only a mile-and-a-half from Interstate highways I-90, I-94, and I-39. The facility is fully heated and sprinklered, with two entrances, a 22' clear ceiling, 12 docks, two drive-in doors, offices and ample parking.
