Focus Management Group Appoints Kalajian Senior Managing Director

Focus Management Group (FMG), a nationwide turnaround and restructuring firm, is excited to announce they have elevated their team with the addition of Perry Kalajian. Perry will serve as a Senior Managing Director to meet the firm’s growing activity levels for its turnaround management team and corporate restructuring services.

Perry has significant experience as a turnaround professional and will be a crucial part of increasing our presence in the world of workouts and restructuring,” said J. Perry has joined Focus Management Group with many years of experience in finance, banking, restructuring, and bankruptcy.  He serves as a Senior Managing Director, heading up the operations and efforts of Focus Management Group in the northeast United States, including the New York metropolitan area.

Perry is a meticulous team player with significant experience on the legal side of the turnaround and restructuring industry. He is able to deliberate effectively with clients, stakeholders and other professionals while working in a high pressure, deadline-oriented environment. His legal background and experience provides additional depth of knowledge and experience for Focus Management Group.

Perry has experience in a variety of industries, including banking and financial services, healthcare and real estate.

In the banking and financial services sector, Perry has advised numerous major international banks and borrowers with respect to loan restructurings which resulted in improved structure and reporting for the lenders.

Perry’s healthcare engagements have included a medical diagnostics company which needed assistance with restructuring its loan and addressing its corporate reorganization. For this client, Perry led a multi-disciplined team in analyzing the debt and corporate structure as well as the workings of the business. This allowed the company to take the proper actions to address the problematic issues.

In the real estate sector, Perry led a large real estate restructuring, which required him to coordinate a large team of professionals with various talents in the analysis of the debt structure, the restructuring of the debt and the operations of the business.  The legal complexities in the real estate sector require discipline and creativity to achieve positive outcomes for lenders and companies.

Perry has also worked in the energy industry, where he was involved in a large bankruptcy case. The successful outcome in this case required Perry being involved in the continued operation of the business 

through the liquidation of its assets and the closing of its operations.

Perry has advised and negotiated for a private equity firm as well as creditors in the bidding and sale process of distressed assets in various industries, including the shopping mall and casino areas.

Perry has experience sourcing replacement lenders, including restructuring the balance sheet of companies to improve both the companies’ prospects and the lenders’ outcome.

Perry has experience serving as counsel at multiple prominent New York City law firms where he closed well over 100 transactions. He has structured, negotiated, drafted documents for, and advised lenders and borrowers on a wide range of domestic and international lending transactions.  Perry has advised lenders and borrowers with respect to restructurings and workouts both inside and outside of formal bankruptcy proceedings.

Perry has a BS in Economics from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in Entrepreneurial Management and Political Science and graduated Cum Laude.  He has a JD degree from the Rutgers University School of Law (Newark) and an LLM degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he concentrated in Corporate Law.  He holds an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in Finance and Management. In addition, Perry is a nationally published author in the area of mergers and acquisitions, including valuation, and has had numerous speaking engagements covering the areas of both law and business.
