Martin Katz to Receive 2013 TMA Chairman’s Award

July 12, 2013, 07:53 AM

Martin I. Katz, founder, president, and managing director of Executive Sounding Board Associates Inc. (ESBA), has been selected as the 2013 Turnaround Management Association (TMA) Chairman’s Award recipient. The veteran of more than 35 years in the restructuring business will be honored during the Friday Night Cabaret event at The TMA Annual, October 4 at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C.

“Marty has played a pivotal role in the history of the turnaround industry and the TMA organization,” said Ronald R. Sussman, TMA chairman and partner in Cooley LLP’s Corporate Restructuring group. “He was one of the pioneers in developing the position of a financial advisor in the assistance of financially and operationally distressed companies. His work and accomplishments have inspired me and countless other professionals in the restructuring community. Marty and his company will have a profound and lasting impact on the industry and our organization.”

The TMA Chairman’s Award recognizes professionals for their outstanding leadership in fostering the growth and stature of TMA and the corporate restructuring industry, as well as having distinguished themselves as prominent professionals in their field of practice and expertise.

For more than 35 years Katz has been responsible for leading hundreds of turnaround and restructuring engagements and in so doing positively changed the trajectories of many lives. His stewardship has enabled the firm to become a recognized brand name in the turnaround industry, as well as be:

  • Recognized for its excellence as the Healthcare Turnaround of the Year;
  • Continually recognized as one of the outstanding turnaround firms annually by multiple trade and media organizations;
  • Responsible for saving more than 50,000 jobs and adding billions of dollars of value that otherwise would have been lost through domestic and international economies.

Katz also worked tirelessly to build TMA from its infancy. He was a trailblazer in the early years when workouts and turnarounds were unfamiliar career paths. His vision, mentoring, leadership and training have been the foundation for many others in the industry who have gone on to follow his example. He has and continues to help shape leaders throughout the industry.

The TMA Annual celebrates the 25th anniversary of TMA and its annual conference this year. Held October 3-5 at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C., the meeting features speakers Doug Parker, chairman and CEO of US Airways; General (ret.) Stanley A. McChrystal; and Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski from MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

The Turnaround Management Association is the leading organization dedicated to turnaround management, corporate restructuring, and distressed investing. Established in 1988, TMA celebrates its 25th anniversary with more than 9,000 members in 48 chapters worldwide, including 31 in North America.
