BDO Consulting Group announced that Michael Edelschick has rejoined the firm’s Business Restructuring & Turnaround Services practice as a Managing Director and national leader of the Bankruptcy Litigation Services group. Edelschick was previously with BDO for seven years until he was hired in 2019 to lead the post-bankruptcy executive team of a specialty supermarket chain as its CFO and the only c-suite executive. After two years and the supermarket’s highly successful turnaround, now with approximately 300 employees, revenue exceeding $100 million and profitability far above industry norms, Edelschick has returned to BDO’s New York City office.

Edelschick has nearly 25 years of experience in bankruptcy litigation, restructuring and investment banking advisory services (both within and outside the bankruptcy process), corporate finance and strategic management. He has significant experience serving clients across numerous industries including retail, consumer products, automotive, manufacturing, media and entertainment. He takes pride in delivering a work product of the highest quality for every project, and brings his deep analytical skillset, proven leadership ability and unique talent to solve and communicate a broad range of complex financial challenges.

Edelschick provides clients with comprehensive analysis and advice on matters involving preference payments, fraudulent transfers, insolvency and other bankruptcy related litigation. These typically include forensic investigations, data testing and analysis, macroeconomic and industry-specific market research, and the application of highly specialized, multi-disciplinary concepts spanning statistics, finance, economics and accounting. He has provided both plaintiffs and defendants with analysis and advice on hundreds of preference claims and served as an expert witness with testimony experience.

In addition, Edelschick has provided restructuring services for various creditor and debtor constituencies including the analysis of business plans, cash flow projections, proposed transactions and restructuring plans. He has developed complex financial models for various purposes including valuation analysis, liquidity analysis, debt capacity analysis, and bottom-up business budgeting and forecasting. Edelschick has conducted extensive interviews with management in performing financial and operational due diligence.

Edelschick is a member of the New York City chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, having previously served on the Board of Directors. He is a Certified Turnaround Professional (CTP), Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor (CIRA), and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFA). Edelschick has a B.A. in Economics and Biology from Wesleyan University and an M.B.A. in Finance and Strategy from Yale School of Management.
