Alvarez & Marsal Launches Forensic Technology Services in Southeast Asia

November 09, 2021, 06:04 AM

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has strengthened its pan-Asian forensic technology and investigative offering with the appointment of Daniel Tay as a Senior Director. Based in Singapore and reporting to Managing Director and Asia Head of Forensic Technology services, Davin Teo, Mr. Tay will be responsible for spearheading the development of A&M’s forensic technology, e-discovery and cybersecurity practice across all Southeast Asian markets and supporting the expansion of the firm’s Disputes and Investigations services in the region.

An industry veteran with more than 20 years’ experience in forensic investigations, Mr. Tay joins A&M from advisory firm KordaMentha where he worked as Executive Director for nine years. Prior to that, he led computer forensic investigations at FTI Consulting. He started his career in the public sector, working as an investigator and digital forensics examiner for the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).

In 2016, Mr. Tay co-founded the Singapore Chapter of the High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA), a not-for-profit organization committed to technology training and networking. He served as President of the association from 2019 to 2020 and is currently its Secretary and a board member.

“A&M’s forensic technology business in Singapore will help meet the growing needs of law firms, banks, government bodies and multinational corporations (MNC) embroiled in disputes and investigations. We have seen a significant rise in the number of local and cross-border disputes requiring experienced electronic discovery experts and investigations requiring a swift response and deep knowledge in digital forensics,” said Mr. Teo. “Daniel’s two-decade career in forensic technology in Singapore combined with his extensive industry network enables us to build on our expanding Forensic Technology business in the region and create value for clients.”

“The launch of our Disputes and Investigations services in Singapore is aligned with our strategic growth plan and growing demand from business generated by our Singapore Turnaround and Restructuring team” said Keith Williamson, Managing Director and Asia Head of Disputes and Investigations. “Our Disputes and Investigations team has grown exponentially in the past two years across mainland China, Hong Kong, Korea and Singapore, and we are continuing to actively hire.”

Mr. Tay commented: “I am delighted to join A&M at a time when forensic technology demand is growing in both the private and the public sectors in Singapore and across neighboring Southeast Asian markets. A&M’s reputation for leading some of the highest profile cross-border investigations in the region combined with its operational heritage are at the foundation of the firm’s ability to solve for complex problems.”
