Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has appointed Washington-based Maggie Koziol as a Senior Director in its Public Sector Services practice. Koziol joins A&M from Deloitte, where she established the education and workforce development unit in the firm’s Purpose Office, overseeing strategy, operations and programming.

Underscoring A&M’s commitment to the education sector, Koziol’s hire will enhance the firm’s focus on providing school administrators and policy makers the tools and analysis required to advance students and build pathways to employment that strengthen communities. With expertise in both corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental, social and governance (ESG) programs, Koziol will help clients devise and implement economics-based solutions that drive toward equitable results and opportunities, particularly for historically excluded populations.

Koziol’s 20-year track record includes leading program design and evaluation efforts at the World Bank and United States Agency for International Development (USAID). She has significant experience turning analysis and insights into practical implementation for achieving positive student outcomes, focused on students’ entry into the workforce. Her expertise aligns with A&M’s commitment to driving change for clients seeking operational improvement and enhanced efficiencies that support financial management innovation.

Erin Covington, a Managing Director with A&M’s Public Service Sector practice leading the firm’s Education Services practice, said, “Maggie’s hire comes at a historic and transformative moment in education nationwide. Educational institutions need powerful, new approaches to stabilize their post-pandemic futures and maximize their ability to add value to the communities they serve. Maggie’s expertise will be critical in helping guide school administrators to better connect the dots between education and workforce development.”

Covington noted, “Maggie is uniquely positioned to apply a fiscal lens towards helping school systems become more operationally effective and accountable. Her experience untangling clients’ complex problems with right-sized and systems-based solutions dovetails with A&M’s operational heritage and our Education Services’ mission.”

Koziol’s appointment builds on A&M’s work with school systems in New Orleans, New York City and St. Louis, which helped administrators align critical resources with students’ most important needs via financial, operational and technical performance improvements.

Koziol earned a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University and a master’s degree in Public Policy (MPP) from the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan. She speaks Polish, Ukrainian and Russian.
