Cacurak Named National Director of Transaction Advisory Services at BDO USA

February 27, 2014, 07:39 AM

BDO USA, LLP has appointed Scott Cacurak to the position of National Director of Transaction Advisory Services (TAS). Cacurak, based in the firm's Los Angeles office, will work with regional TAS leaders to develop go-to-market strategies for the practice, while coordinating with the firm's private equity practice and various industry teams to ensure clients receive the firm's very best technical resources and industry know-how when considering an acquisition or preparing for sale. Fred Campos, based in South Florida, and Tony Enlow, based in Dallas, have been appointed Directors in the National TAS Practice to support Cacurak and TAS regional leaders. The appointments are effective immediately.

“BDO has been providing clients with transaction advisory services for many years and under Scott's leadership we believe it has potential for major growth,” said Wayne Berson, CEO OF BDO USA. “The TAS practice will support transactions across the firm’s industry spectrum, and bring to bear experienced deal professionals across disciplines to support clients considering an acquisition or sale with buy-side and sell-side due diligence.”

Transaction related services are critical to BDO’s middle-market client base of strategic acquirers, private equity firms and lenders. These guide them through the transaction process. Analyzing the quality of earnings, challenging assumptions in the transaction rationale, identifying risks and opportunities, performing tax due diligence and considering the appropriate tax structure are just a few of the key services that support clients in their investment decisions.

"Private Equity lives and dies by getting deal flow, and the TAS practice is close to the action with regard to transactions, so the relationship between the two areas is critical," said Lee Duran, National Director of the Private Equity Practice of BDO USA. "Scott's experience with transaction advisory services and within the private equity industry make him an ideal person to orchestrate our strong TAS team to serve clients."

"Our TAS professionals are the very best in the industry and I'm eager to work with them to develop national strategies, procedures and resources that will enhance our brand in the marketplace and aggressively grow our practice," said Scott Cacurak. "I'm also looking forward to working with my TAS counterparts around the BDO international network to increase work on cross border transactions."

An assurance partner in BDO USA's Los Angeles practice, Scott Cacurak was a founding member of the BDO National Private Equity Industry Task Force and serves as BDO’s West Region Hedge Fund, Venture Capital and Private Equity audit practice leader. He is one of the firm’s experts on technical matters related to private investment partnerships. Cacurak's industry expertise includes hedge funds, private equity/venture capital, technology (software) and financial services clients ranging from venture capital-backed emerging growth enterprises to global Fortune 1000 publicly held companies. Prior to joining BDO in 2005, Scott worked in the Bay Area practices of two Big Four firms, and also served as an interim CFO role at various middle market manufacturing and technology companies.

Fred Campos has more than 17 years of experience in accounting and finance, including seven years of transaction experience at a Big Four firm where he led cross-border transactions throughout the United States and Latin America for strategic and private equity clients. Campos has executed on more than 90 transactions (buy-side and sell-side) ranging from $15 million to over $1 billion in purchase price. His industry experience includes information technology, healthcare, consumer products, retail, education, distribution, manufacturing, and transportation,
engineering, and mining. Prior to joining BDO, he was an auditor with a Big Four firm and also served as a financial reporting manager for a public company.

Tony Enlow has over 15 years of experience providing financial due diligence and transaction advisory services. He has worked on over 300 transactions ranging in size from $5 million to $40 billion and has assisted buyers and sellers that include private equity, public and private companies focused on transactional quality of earnings, cash flows and working capital. Enlow has experience in a number of industries including agriculture companies, multi-location retail and restaurant, manufacturing, textiles, regulated and unregulated energy and energy related services, professional services, technology and many others. Prior to joining BDO, Enlow served as a Managing Director at FTI and spent eight years in the transaction advisory services group of a Big Four firm.

Strategically focused and exceptionally responsive, BDO’s Transaction Advisory Services practice supports domestic and international private equity firms and strategic acquirers in evaluating matters critical to the successful conclusion of potential transactions. A dedicated team of transaction professionals leverage their extensive industry and technical experience, to help potential buyers assess key financial, tax and other matters that may impact the transaction and the target company. The firm also provides sell-side due diligence to clients looking to sell all or part of their businesses. TAS professionals assist sellers in identifying and addressing key deal issues in order to achieve a successful exit.
