Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft announced that partners Bevis Metcalfe (London) and Doug Mintz (New York) will become Co-Chairs of the firm’s Financial Restructuring practice, effective January 1, 2026.
“A robust restructuring practice is an essential capability that is highly synergistic with many of our strongest practices on both sides of the Atlantic,” said Cadwalader Co-Managing Partner Pat Quinn. “Bevis and Doug are well positioned to lead our Financial Restructuring practice as we continue to grow to meet the needs of clients.”
Metcalfe and Mintz will oversee a Cadwalader team that ranked #3 on The Deal’s global list of firms serving as counsel to creditors in out-of-court restructurings, according to the publication’s November 2025 league tables. On that same list, Cadwalader also ranked as the #5 firm for counsel to distressed companies. Additionally, the firm was ranked #19 in The Deal’s bankruptcy tables.
Metcalfe is a well-known practitioner in the London finance and restructuring markets with a practice spanning all aspects of corporate credit, restructurings, complex cross-border insolvencies, and distressed M&A. He is recognized as a leading practitioner by Chambers Global, Chambers UK, The Legal 500 UK and Lawdragon.
“I am very proud to be co-leading a fully integrated trans-Atlantic team of exceptionally talented bankruptcy, litigation and finance lawyers focused exclusively on delivering for clients in their most challenging mandates,” Bevis said.
Mintz’s practice focuses on the representation of creditors in financial restructurings and special situations, including bank agents, private credit funds, ad hoc committees of creditors, equity sponsors and distressed investors. A frequent lecturer, author and media presence, Doug has been recognized consistently as a leading restructuring lawyer by The Legal 500 U.S., Lawdragon and Chambers USA, which has listed him every year since 2012.
Mintz noted, “I am honored to have the opportunity to build on the incredible history of this firm and the restructuring team. We are continuing to do great work for great clients and we are excited to grow a team that makes sure secured creditors come first.”
The team remains focused on top-of-the-capital-stack secured creditors of all types. Cadwalader represents banks, CLOs, private credit lenders and multi-strategy funds in the full spectrum of special situations – ranging from loan amend-and-extends to free-fall proceedings in the United States and Europe. As the market continues to prioritize cross-practice restructuring efforts both in and out of court, Cadwalader has the multi-disciplinary approach and depth across restructuring, finance, corporate, litigation and tax that our creditor clients need.
