Mayer Brown announced that Daniel Serota has joined the firm as a partner in New York, the latest in a series of new hires to join the firm’s global Corporate & Securities practice. Serota brings extensive corporate finance, M&A, and private equity experience and will co-lead Mayer Brown’s Financial Services Mergers & Acquisitions practice. He joins from Sidley Austin LLP.
“Dan’s arrival is a key step in the continued expansion of our global M&A and private equity capabilities,” said Paul Theiss, co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global M&A practice. “His industry experience and strong client relationships align perfectly with our growth priorities and our commitment to delivering exceptional service to our clients. Above all, Dan has built a reputation as a team player and will fit in perfectly at Mayer Brown. We are excited to welcome Dan to the firm.”
Serota brings significant experience advising on complex auctions, mergers, stock and asset purchases, hostile offers, joint ventures, proxy contests, and transactions in bankruptcy or with distressed entities. He advises across a range of industries, with a particular emphasis on financial services, technology, and media and telecommunications. Dan is a trusted advisor to some of the world’s most influential investment firms and global technology leaders. His track record includes orchestrating transformative deals, from multi-billion-dollar acquisitions and innovative joint ventures to sophisticated financings and strategic investments.
“Mayer Brown’s focus on key growth areas and its role in high-profile transactions demonstrate the firm’s leadership in the market,” said Serota. “The collaborative culture, international platform, and commitment to client service make this an ideal environment for my practice. I look forward to contributing to the firm’s ongoing success.”
“Our New York office continues to build on recent achievements, and Dan’s experience further strengthens our team,” said Allison Aviki, managing partner of Mayer Brown’s New York office. “His addition underscores our dedication to assembling a premier group of professionals to serve our clients on their most significant matters.”
Serota’s addition reflects Mayer Brown’s broader strategy to strengthen its M&A and private equity practices. The firm’s recent high-profile M&A work includes representing Boeing in connection with its tech asset sale to Thoma Bravo; advising R.J. O’Brien on its merger with StoneX Group; representing Munich Re Life US on its strategic partnership with MIB; and advising Conagra on the sale of the Chef Boyardee brand to Brynwood Partners, all deals announced since April 14.
