Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) announced the appointment of Barry Gold as a Managing Director in its Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) group. With Gold’s hire, A&M weaves its in-depth private equity expertise with its infrastructure sector bench strength ensuring the delivery of bespoke end-to-end solutions, from feasibility to exit, for private equity, strategic investors and developers.

Nick Alvarez, Managing Director and National Practice Leader of PEPI, commented, “Barry brings a rare combination of investment judgment, operating expertise, and infrastructure sector fluency. His addition speaks to A&M’s strategic senior talent investments, with the sector expertise, to deliver value creation strategies that address the capital intensity, complexity, and regulatory scrutiny defining today’s infrastructure landscape.”

Gold brings more than three decades of experience in infrastructure private equity investing, debt financing, and financial advisory, with assignments spanning power, energy, transport, and water infrastructure segments. Having worked extensively across North America, Europe, and Asia, he advises clients on strategy development, portfolio value creation, due diligence, and asset optimization. Additionally, Gold has led the financings for infrastructure assets, public–private partnerships, project financings, and advisory assignments totaling more than $30 billion of transaction value.

Marcos Ganut, Managing Director and Global Head of Infrastructure & Capital Projects, noted, “Barry’s track record adds depth and breadth to A&M’s sub-sector infrastructure knowledge. The firm’s legacy of execution excellence serves as the springboard for our “Total Infrastructure” approach. Barry’s appointment reinforces our ability to leverage sector-specific insight with actionable performance improvement strategies that maximize value and mitigate risk for infrastructure investors worldwide.”

Markus Lahrkamp, Managing Director and leader of PEPI’s Commercial and Operational group, added, “Infrastructure is a priority growth area. Barry’s joining takes our robust sector offering to the next level, in alignment with the firm’s integrated platform and operational legacy. His background strengthens our ability to serve infrastructure-focused private equity funds and investors looking to drive returns in a rapidly evolving and demanding market.”

Prior to joining A&M, Gold spent three years with Marathon Capital Partners, the asset management affiliate of Marathon Capital, a leading advisor in clean energy, infrastructure, and technology, where he served as Senior Managing Partner. Previously, he served as the Head of Infrastructure Investment at ORIX USA, was with Starwood Energy Infrastructure Fund; Co-Founder and Co-Head of The Carlyle Group’s Infrastructure Fund; Co-Head of Citigroup’s Structured and Infrastructure Finance Group; Chief Development Officer at Airport Group International; and Head of Asian Project Finance at Lehman Brothers.

Gold added, “A&M’s unique full-service infrastructure offering is positioned to help clients turn complexity into advantage. Whether it's supporting an investment in the making, driving EBITDA improvement, or preparing for an exit, the firm’s culture, capabilities, and collaborative mindset create an unmatched environment for delivering maximum value to clients across all phases of the infrastructure investment lifecycle.”

Gold earned a bachelor’s degree in computer applications and an MBA in finance from New York University. He served on the boards of eight private equity portfolio companies. A major thought leader, he served as an adjunct professor at NYU’s Stern School of Business on infrastructure finance, gives lectures annually on infrastructure policy and finance at the University of Chicago Law School, and was Editor of the Journal of Structured Finance.
