Haynes Boone Continues Rapid Growth in New York with Return of Real Estate Finance Partner Sarmadi

June 24, 2025, 07:00 AM

Haynes Boone added Real Estate Finance Partner Moni Sarmadi back to the firm’s New York office. Sarmadi returns to Haynes Boone after serving as a vice president on the real estate investment team at Goldman Sachs for three years.

Sarmadi was previously an associate at Haynes Boone for six years, where he focused on commercial real estate lending and worked closely with institutional lenders on mortgage and mezzanine financings. His practice centers on the structuring and origination of complex real estate loans, particularly on behalf of fund and bank clients.

“We are very proud to welcome Moni back to Haynes Boone as part of our ongoing and strategic expansion in New York,” said Craig Unterberg, managing partner of the New York office. “Moni was a standout associate during his first stint at Haynes Boone and played a key role in our office’s success. His unique blend of private practice and in-house experience positions us to serve financial institutions with even greater agility and insight.”

During his time at Goldman Sachs, Sarmadi helped lead legal structuring for real estate transactions and advised on the execution of deals involving third-party capital. That experience further deepened his perspective on client priorities and operational needs in real estate finance.

“Haynes Boone was my first choice for returning to private practice and it’s an incredibly exciting time to rejoin the firm,” Sarmadi said. “The culture of the firm, the strength of the real estate team and the opportunity to further develop longstanding client relationships made this a natural fit.”

Sarmadi’s return reflects Haynes Boone’s continued investment in its New York office, which has welcomed multiple lateral partners in 2024 and 2025 to meet growing client demand in key transactional areas. His arrival marks the seventh partner addition in New York since the beginning of 2025, highlighted by the addition of Carrie DiCanio last week and a group of seven finance attorneys who joined in February.

The firm’s Real Estate Practice Group was recently ranked nationally by Chambers and earned a Band 4 recognition in New York, with several of its partners also individually ranked. Sarmadi is the ninth partner to join the firm’s global Real Estate Practice Group since the start of 2024 and the third in New York City, following Brett Dockwell and Joe Sarcinella.
